Dangote Cement sets London briefing as LSE listing preparations advance

Dangote Cement London listing plans have a key date: 21 September 2026. It is a fresh marker in the group’s push towards a secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange.

The company disclosed the plan through a regulatory statement filed on 2 September, signed by company secretary Edward Imoedemhe. The filing confirmed that the Dangote Cement London listing process is entering a more active phase.

The London event will bring senior management together with investors and other stakeholders. Executives are expected to walk the market through the company’s strategy, operations and business priorities. Investors will also get room to put questions directly to the team steering the Dangote Cement London listing plan. The company has not yet released a full agenda. It said only that details of the programme, including logistics, will be shared closer to the date. Presentation materials will follow, in keeping with standard market disclosure rules.

This briefing builds on an announcement made back in May. Dangote Cement told the market then that it intended to pursue a London listing alongside its existing quotation on the Nigerian Exchange. Shareholders have since signed off on the move. That clears one of the bigger hurdles standing between the company and a dual listing. Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, has previously indicated that around 10 per cent of the cement maker’s shares could be sold to external investors. That would happen once the Dangote Cement London listing is complete.

It is not the company’s first attempt at a UK quotation. Dangote Cement looked at a London listing as far back as 2018 but shelved the idea. The move was weighed down then by strict listing requirements and the demands of building the Dangote Refinery at the same time. Regulatory changes in the UK have since made the route easier. Reforms by the Financial Conduct Authority relaxed minimum free float rules for dual listed issuers from emerging markets. That has removed some of the obstacles that stalled the earlier Dangote Cement London listing attempt.

The timing lines up with a wider shift in how Nigerian equities are viewed abroad. FTSE Russell is set to upgrade Nigeria from an unclassified market to frontier market status on the same day as the London briefing. Analysts say that change could draw fresh institutional interest into Nigerian linked stocks, Dangote Cement included.

The company’s recent numbers give the pitch to London investors some weight. Pre-tax profit for the six months to 30 June came to 981.39 billion naira. That is up from 730.03 billion naira over the same period last year, a rise of 34.43 per cent. Profit after tax climbed 22.69 per cent to 638.53 billion naira, while earnings per share moved from 30.74 naira to 38.22 naira. Those figures are likely to feature prominently when management makes its case at the London briefing.

If the Dangote Cement London listing goes ahead as planned, the company would gain access to a broader pool of international capital. It would also sit alongside a small group of African corporates, including Airtel Africa, that have chosen London for a dual quotation. For now, the focus is on 21 September, when investors get their first proper look at how far the Dangote Cement London listing plan has come.
