Distinguished Governor Hope Uzodimma’s recent statement about not prioritising the geographical origin of his successor has sparked controversy, particularly among my fellow Owerri zone indigenes. While it’s natural to feel concerned about representation, it’s essential to approach this issue with caution and understanding.
Ihe wu agwo nu akirika.
Governor Uzodimma’s emphasis on continuity and development is a testament to his commitment to Imo State’s progress. Rather than focusing entirely on zoning or geographical considerations, he prioritises finding a capable leader who can build on his achievements.
Let’s avoid casting aspersions or making rash judgments. Instead, let’s engage in constructive dialogue especially with our Okigwe zone brethren and consider the governor’s perspective. By doing so, we can work together towards a brighter future for Imo State, where Development and Progress take center stage.
Given Governor Hope Uzodimma’s emphasis on continuity and development, the Okigwe zone, particularly through the leadership of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, presents a compelling case for succession. Here are my key points supporting this argument:
Experience and Proven Track Record
Governor Ikedi Ohakim has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, having previously served as Imo State Governor from 2007 to 2011. During his tenure, he delivered Solid Infrastructure, which stands till date, showcasing his capacity for Sustainable Development.
His experience and competence make him an ideal candidate to build upon the existing projects and policies of the Uzodimma administration.
Continuity and Development
Governor Ohakim’s Development-Oriented approach aligns with Governor Uzodimma’s focus on enduring infrastructure and selflessness in service. This continuity would ensure that Imo State’s progress remains uninterrupted.
By allowing Okigwe zone to produce the next governor just for one term of 4years, Imo State can maintain stability and peace, fostering an environment conducive to growth and development.
Equity and Fairness
The call for Okigwe zone to produce the next governor stems from principles of Equity, Fairness, and Inclusive Governance. Given the zone’s significant contribution to Governor Uzodimma’s electoral success, particularly in the 2023 November elections, it’s reasonable to consider their claim.
Okigwe zone’s bid for the governorship is built on the foundation of rotational leadership, promoting unity and cohesion among Imo State’s diverse population.
Consensus and Support
Governor Ohakim enjoys considerable support not only within Okigwe zone but the entire state, with many regarding him as the Consensus Candidate due to his Humility, Accountability, and Industry.
The zone has rallied behind him, demonstrating a unified front that could translate to effective governance.
Youth Engagement and Empowerment
As evidenced during his first term in office , Governor Ohakim remains committed to the ideals and prospects that move Imo State forward.
His engagement with youths suggests a deep understanding of their needs and aspirations.
In conclusion therefore, considering Governor Uzodimma’s priorities, Chief Ikedi Ohakim’s experience, development-oriented approach, and the Okigwe zone’s claim based on Equity and Fairness make a strong case for his succession. By supporting Chief Ohakim, Imo State can ensure Continuity, Stability, and Inclusive Growth.
