Flights in and out Akanu Ibiam airport Enugu suspended

Flights in and out of Akanu Ibiam airport Enugu have been suspended following the deterioration of the runway constructed few years ago by Public Works (PW) Nigeria Limited.

The airport would be temporarily closed from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025 during the repairs.

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu has had recurring problems with its runway from Jonathan administration until now. It has had to be closed for repairs a few times.

Former minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika made it a point in his ministerial screening before the senate and said he was going to shut down the airport if appointed minister. He was and he did it.

Then politics entered it and South East politicians and leaders had to go to Abuja to literally beg former president Muhammadu Buhari to appropriate money for the repairs of the runway.

A total of N10b was appropriated and spent on the runway and other palliative works at the airport.

Within a few years, the runway has failed again and the FAAN has closed it yet again.

Airlines servicing the airport: Air Peace, United Nigeria, Ibom Air, and Ethiopian Airlines have had to temporarily suspend flights in and out of the beleaguered airport.

Passengers on local flights are being rerouted through Asaba in Delta State. It is not clear where international flights are being diverted.
